About MOTory

MOTory is a quick way to look up the MOT history of a UK vehicle. Enter a registration number or VIN and you get the full test record — every pass, every failure, the defects recorded along the way, and how the mileage has moved over the years.

Registration or VIN
Type either one. MOTory works out which you have entered and looks it up. Every result has its own shareable, bookmarkable address.
The full test record
Each test with its result, date, mileage and certificate expiry, and the defects recorded — dangerous ones surfaced rather than tucked away.
Mileage over time
A chart of the recorded readings, the change between one test and the next, and how the yearly average compares with published figures.
Where the information comes from

Every figure shown comes from the DVSA MOT History API, the government service that publishes MOT test records. Nothing is edited, corrected or added — if a record looks surprising, that is what the official record holds.

  • DVSAMOT tests carried out in England, Scotland and Wales.
  • DVA NITests carried out in Northern Ireland. Defect details are not published for these, so MOTory says so rather than implying a clean test.
  • CVSAnnual tests for commercial vehicles — lorries, buses and trailers.

MOTory keeps no database. Each lookup is a fresh request to DVSA, and nothing about the vehicles you check is stored between visits. The same records are available directly from the GOV.UK MOT history service.
